ANTWERP, Ohio (WANE) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious crash that hospitalized four people after a Ford Focus and a semi crashed on U.S. 24 in Paulding County early Monday morning.

According to crash investigators, around 12:45 a.m., a 2004 Ford Focus tried to cross U.S. 24 on County Road 21, about one mile west of the village of Antwerp, but failed to yield to the semi and was struck on the passenger side.

Samaritan LifeFlight and Antwerp EMS transported the occupants of the Ford Focus, Brandon E. Sims, 24, Tiffany M. Sims, 18 and Amanda R. Kohli, 18 all of Toledo, Ohio, to Parkview Regional Hospital. The driver of the semi, Richard Smith Jr., was transported to Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital by Antwerp EMS.

The crash is still under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and seat belt use is unknown. The conditions of the victims taken to Parkview Regional Hospital are currently listed as stable.
