LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne woman died Saturday night after a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 20.
According to our partners in news at KPC , John Freiburger, 62, of Fort Wayne, was driving eastbound in the 1400 block of U.S. 20 around 6:10 p.m. when he left the north side of the road and went up a small embankment and then hit a tree.
Police said the passenger of the vehicle, Debra Freiburger, 56, of Fort Wayne, was declared dead at the scene.
According to police, Freiburger was trapped inside of the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the LaGrange Fire Department. KPC reported Freiburger was airlifted to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for treatment of a broken pelvis, hip and both legs and broken ribs.
Officers said one lane of U.S. 20 was closed for three hours Saturday night following the crash.
The LaGrange Police, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Shipshewana Police and LaGrange Fire and EMS are investigating the crash.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
