FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  A husband and wife, James R. Hendrickson, JR, 56, of Fort Wayne and Mary Catherine Hendrickson, 50, also of Fort Wayne, were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle on Ardmore Ave. on Wednesday.

Just before 12:15 p.m., emergency crews were called to the 2700 block of Ardmore Avenue just south of Covington Road.

According to police, a white vehicle was heading south on Ardmore when the driver crossed the center line and hit the motorcycle head-on. The motorcycle then went into a ditch and caught on fire.

The Hendricksons were both unconscious and unresponsive when medics got there. James, the driver of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Medics took Mary Catherine to the hospital in critical condition. She later died. Neither was wearing a helmet.

Medics took the female driver of the vehicle to the hospital in stable condition.

The Hendricksons are the 17th and 18th traffic fatalities for Fort Wayne and Allen County this year.

The crash is under investigation by the FWPD, the FACT team, the Allen County Coroner's Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
