MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -  Southbound U.S. 31 in Miami County was closed for over four hours Thursday afternoon because of a fatal crash involving a semi, a box truck, and two other vehicles.

According to Indiana State Police, Michael Natterstad, 53, of Brownsburg, was driving a semi southbound on U.S. 31 approaching State Road 218. For an undetermined reason, Natterstad rear-ended a southbound box truck that was slowing for a red traffic light at S.R. 218.

The impact caused the box truck, driven by James Williams, 44, of Kokomo, to rear end a Honda CRV and a Jeep Liberty, which were both stopped for the red traffic light at S.R. 218. The Honda was driven by Tim Boggs, 35, of Peru and the Jeep was driven by Ellen Badillo, 38, of Elkhart.

Natterstad was pronounced dead at the crash scene from injuries suffered in the high impact crash. Medics took Badillo and a passenger to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Williams and Boggs were not hurt.
