HELMER, Ind. (WANE) - A Garrett man failed to negotiate a curve on State Road 327 late Monday night, crashing his BMW into a tree, according to police.
According to DeKalb County Sheriff Officers, just before midnight, Ricky Cline, 31, was traveling north on S.R. 327 near County Road 2 when he left the road at the start of a large 'S' curve.
The car continued off the road and down a small embankment before slamming into a tree.
Firefighters from the Ashley Fire Department freed Cline from the vehicle after the impact trapped him in the car.
Cline was then air-lifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. Police said he may have suffered two broken legs, along with a chest injury. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
