FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man driving his car on Jefferson Boulevard early Thursday morning is lucky to be alive after his car went off the road for nearly 500 feet and flipped.
Police said the 26-year-old driver was traveling east in the 6800 block of West Jefferson Boulevard when he swerved to miss a deer. The man's car left the road and traveled along a wet grassy stretch for nearly 500 feet before the car flipped over a creek. The car ended upside down approximately 30 feet below a bridge, just feet away from the creek.
Police said the man was able to call 911. Paramedics found the man standing near the road. Officers said the man might not have been found until daylight if he had been seriously injured because of where the car stopped.
The vehicle was not visible from the road in either direction.
The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and was able to walk away without any serious injuries.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
