DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A rural Auburn man is dead following a fiery crash that took place Morning morning in DeKalb County.

According to the Indiana State Police, a DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy was called to a home in the 5300 block of County Road 51. The deputy made contact through a window with Casey May, 27, of Auburn, at the home just before he got into a jeep inside the garage and drove out through the closed door. After leaving the garage, the jeep collided with the squad car before the driver sped off south on County Road 51.

A second deputy showed up just as May was heading south and he began to try to catch up with it with lights and siren on. During the pursuit, May's jeep left the west side of the road between CR 56 and CR 60 about a mile from the home. The jeep hit a tree head-on and the vehicle caught fire.

May was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
