WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) - Warsaw police are investigating an accident involving a 7-year-old who was struck by a car Wednesday evening.

According to police, around 8:30 p.m., emergency officials were called to the 700 block of East Market Street near the Dubois-Richardson Park.

Emergency personnel found the child semi-conscious in the middle of the road. She was transported by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital and last listed in serious condition with head and side injuries.

The report states the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) has ruled out speed, alcohol and drugs as factors in the accident.

Investigators believe a group of children crossed the road while several waited to cross, before the girl then moved into the path of the oncoming vehicle. The report says the front of the vehicle struck the girl, throwing her onto the hood of the car and then onto the road.

The report did not say if the driver of the car sustained any injuries.
