FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A single-vehicle accident in the parking lot of Ivy Tech left a man in critical condition on Thursday morning.
According to witness statements, the vehicle was traveling southbound on St. Joe Rd. and was going to turn into the Canterbury Green apartment complex when the driver accelerated and drove off of the roadway and struck several trees and a large rock.
Police said the vehicle, driven by Jose Baca, 21, of Akron, then came back onto St. Joe Rd., crossed all lanes of traffic, and went over the street median. The car then speed directly into the Ivy Tech parking lot and collided with a light pole.
Police said as of Friday morning, Baca remained in critical condition.
Police said there were no other injuries and the driver was wearing his seatbelt.
Investigators believe a medical condition was a contributing factor the accident.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
