STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Butler man is in critical condition after he wrecked his motorcycle in rural Steuben County.
It happened just before 9:30 Saturday night on SR 1 at the intersection of Hamilton Lake Lane 101. The sheriff's department said 36-year-old Stacy Shirk was going around a curve but due to excessive speed could not make the turn and laid down his motorcycle. Shirk and the motorcycle slid off the road and collided with a wooden sign post. He was not wearing a helmet.
Shirk was flown to Parkview in critical condition with head injuries.
The sheriff's department is still investigating the accident and alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
