FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A nine-year-old boy was hurt while riding a snowmobile Saturday, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Conservation officers said the crash happened around 1:55 p.m. in the 13700-block of S. Anthony Blvd. Extended.
A release to the media said William Lockwood, 9, of Fort Wayne was driving a Polaris snowmobile in a field behind his home. Lockwood's uncle was driving a different snowmobile nearby. Conservation officers said Lockwood misjudged a turn and jumped from the snowmobile just before it hit and got stuck under a parked grain truck.
Paramedics treated Lockwood at the scene for rib and lung injuries. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital for further treatment. Hospital staff said he was listed in stable condition Saturday night.
Poe Fire Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority all assisted the DNR at the scene.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
