FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, crews responded to what appears to be a single-car accident near the intersection of Hessen Cassel Road & Maples Road.

A NewsChannel 15 photographer on the scene saw crews work to get one woman who had been stuck in the car, out. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

It appeared that only one car on the scene was involved in the accident. Officials on the scene said the driver left the road for an unknown reason.

The car did catch fire for a short time after the crash. A man on the scene told NewsChannel 15 he heard the crash from inside a house, saw that there was a small fire, grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran outside. Once outside, he said he and another bystander helped put the fire out.
