FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Fort Wayne police said they had to calm an unruly drunk driver after the man crashed his vehicle and was repeatedly spitting on emergency personnel.
Just after 9:30 Wednesday night, police on the scene said a vehicle traveling south on Lima Road near Fernhill Avenue left the road and slammed into utility poles and a parking lot light post.
A NewsChannel 15 photographer on scene said he repeatedly heard officers tell the man to stop spitting. A TRAA paramedic, at one point, struck the man in the leg to calm him down.
After the man was removed from the vehicle, he was restrained to a backboard and stretcher. He continued spitting and officers warned the man to stop. A FWPD officer then tased him to calm him down.

The man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. A male passenger in the car did not have any injuries.
It's not clear what charges the driver will face.
The Fort Wayne Police Department has not returned calls commenting on the incident.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
