WABASH COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A two-vehicle accident on Saturday in Wabash County left one person dead and another person charged with reckless homicide.
The accident happened on Saturday at around 2:05 p.m. at the intersection of County Rd. 600 W. and Division Rd.
Police said Emilio Santana, 26, of Macy, was driving southbound on CR 600 W. and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of CR 600 W. and Division Rd.
Santana then entered the intersection and struck an eastbound Jeep, driven by Cara McCollister, 35, of Roann. McCollister had no stop sign and had the right of way on Division Rd.
Police said the Jeep went off of the road, hit a utility pole snapping it in half, went air-borne and then rolled onto its top in a field southeast of the intersection.
McCollister and her fifteen year-old son were trapped inside the Jeep and had to be extricated. They were both air-lifted from the scene and taken to Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Cara McCollister was pronounced dead at the hospital from her injuries. Her son sustained internal injuries.
Santana was not injured in the accident.
According to police, Santana has been charged with Reckless Homicide, a class D felony. Additional charges are pending.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
