HOUSTON (AP) — The Western Conference beat the East 143-138 last night in the NBA All-Star game. Kevin Durant scored 30 points and MVP Chris Paul had 20 points and 15 assists for the West. LeBron James scored 19 points but shot only 7 of 18 after having no shooting troubles during the latter part of the season's first half. Carmelo Anthony led the East with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Stepan's power-play goal early in the third period snapped a tie and completed the New York Rangers' rally to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals last night. It was the only time New York's struggling power-play unit connected in the game, but it came at the perfect time and helped snap the Capitals' season-high winning streak at three games.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter still expects to be ready for opening day. He met with reporters yesterday and said he could start running on the field in the next couple of days for the first time since ankle surgery.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Outfielder Shane Victorino is looking to rebound — along with the Boston Red Sox. The Flyin' Hawaiian was dealt from Philadelphia to the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer and wound up hitting only .255 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs. He became a free agent after the season and signed a $39 million, three-year contract with the Red Sox, who were coming off a last-place finish.

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Number 3 Connecticut will host Number 1 Baylor in college women's basketball tonight at the XL Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. In Connecticut's last Big Monday showdown, the Huskies beat Number 4 Duke by 30 points.

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — The Boston Bruins plan to become the latest ambassadors from the world of sports to visit Newtown in the wake of the December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The Bruins have a series of events in town today, including a street-hockey clinic, a clinic with the high school's hockey team, an autograph session with children and a meeting with first responders, who will be given autographed and framed jerseys.
