FORT WAYNE, IN. - The opening half of the 2012 Midwest League season fell far short of the TinCaps expectations. A 31-39 record and a league worst .234 batting average left the Caps in seventh place in the East Division - but there is reason for optimism as the All-Star break comes to an end.

The TinCaps pitching staff has been a bright spot this season, posting one of the lowest collective ERA's in the league. Furthermore, the roster has had little turnover compared to the other teams in the Midwest League this season. Though its role is easy to overlook, many players say the camaraderie of this TinCaps team will be a significant advantage in the playoff push.

The team ushered in the second half of the schedule with a light practice Thursday night at Parkview Field that was briefly interrupted by rain. The TinCaps welcome Lake County to Parkview Field Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
