Huntington's Wiley Signs With Cardinals

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) - Huntington native Brett Wiley has elected to begin his career as a professional baseball player as the star shortstop signed with the Cardinals.

St. Louis drafted Wiley on Tuesday night in the 13th round.

Wiley just finished his sophomore season of college baseball at Jefferson College in Missouri. He was scheduled to play next season at Missouri State.

Wiley hit .418 last sesaon for Jefferson with six home runs and 59 RBI.

A Huntington North grad, Wiley will leaving for the Cardinals' spring training facility in Florida on June 12. After a week or so at the facility the Cards will assign him to a minor league team for the rest of the summer - likely the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York Penn League or the Johnson County Cardinals of the Appalachian League.
