FORT WAYNE, IN (March 21, 2013) – The Fort Wayne Mad Ants got a much needed 107-93 victory over the Maine Red Claws this evening in Fort Wayne as they continue their late season push towards a playoff spot. The Mad Ants earned the victory with outstanding play from their three big men who each had double-doubles – Brandon Wallace, Tommy Smith, and Terrance Thomas.
The game was tight in the first quarter with both teams exchanging leads, but the Mad Ant took a 16-15 lead on a Ron Howard jump shot, and they never looked back. While the game remained close in the second quarter, the Ants finally stretched the lead to as high as eight in the second quarter on a Brandon Wallace finger roll, and Fort Wayne went into the half with a 55-48 lead. Fort Wayne continued their strong play into the second half and pushed their lead to as high as 23 points off of an Anthony Harris lay in, and the Ants rolled to the 107-93 win.
Jermaine Taylor’s 31 points led the Red Claws, and Mark Tyndale chipped in with 15 points.
Ron Howard and Tony Mitchell had nice scoring games with 20 points and 19 points respectively, but it was Wallace (16 points and 13 rebounds), Smith (14 points and 11 rebounds), and Thomas (12 points and 12 rebounds) who owned the paint for the Ants set the tone for the Ants.
The Mad Ants look to earn another win tomorrow as they take on the Austin Toros at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 pm.
