FORT WAYNE, Ind. - With both rosters set at eight players, the Maine Red Claw’s Morris Almond scored 31 points to give the Red Claws the 124-108 victory over the Mad Ants.
Almond finished the first half with 22 points, as the two teams went into the locker rooms locked in at 59 apiece. For the Ants, back-up center Sean Sonderleiter finished with 19 first half points of his own as he filled the void of starting forwards Jared Reiner and Rob Kurz, both out due to the flu and an injury, respectively.
The two teams battled hard in the third period, scoring 23 points each to keep the score even at 82.
The Red Claws took control of the fourth, scoring 42 points in the final period. The Red Claws shot 52% from the field and 45% from behind the three point arc to push them past the Mad Ants.
The Red Claws finished with 5 players in double figures. Almond led all scorers with 31, as Darnell Lazare and Maurice Ager contributed 20 apiece. Russell Robinson and Trey Gilder each chipped in 18.
The Ants were led by Sonderleiter, who finished the game with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ron Howard finished with 22, and Dan Dickau scored 18 points with 8 assists.
