FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Mad Ants will get the 2012-13 season rolling Friday night with more optimism than ever before.

The Ants have never made the NBA Development League playoffs, but with JaJuan Johnson, Walker Russell, Jr., and Ron Howard on the roster the team has perhaps more talent than ever before.

The Ants took Johnson, a former Purdue star, with the no. 1 pick in the D-League draft earlier this month. Johnson is considered the top NBA prospect in the NBDL. He was selected in the first round of the NBA draft in 2011 by the Boston Celtics.

The Ants will be led by new head coach and NBDL veteran Duane Ticknor.

One player of note is forward Bryant Austin. Austin is an Ohio native and Indiana Tech grad. He spent last season playing in the ABA.

The season tips off Friday night at home against Erie at War Memorial Coliseum. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
