Swarbrick, Wedge Headline Banquet

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and former Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge headlined the annual Fort Wayne Sports Corporation banquet Thursday night in the Appleseed Room of War Memorial Coliseum.

Named Notre Dame's athletic director in July of 2008, Swarbrick is best known for firing football coach Charlie Weis and hiring Brian Kelly as Weis' replacement.

Wedge - a Fort Wayne native and graduate of Northrop high school - managed the Indians from 2002 to 2009. In 1983 at Northrop Wedge was part of the Bruins' 1983 IHSAA state championship team. He was named American League manager of the year in 2007 after guiding the Indians to the AL Central title.

Wedge is scheduled to hold his sixth annual Eric Wedge Baseball Camp at the ASH Center this coming Saturday.

This year's Fort Wayne Sports Corporation banquet benefits the Fort Wayne Sports Corp., the Notre Dame Club of Fort Wayne Scholarship Fun, and the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana.
