Komets D-Man DeAngelis Annouces Retirement

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Komets announced Friday that defenseman Frankie DeAngelis has decided to retire from the game of hockey.

DeAngelis announced his retirement and notified Komet management that he will take employment back home outside of hockey.  "Frankie was a great Komet and even a greater person," Komet general manager David Franke said. "We will miss him in many ways, but once a Komet, always a Komet."

During his career with the Komets, DeAngelis was selected to the 2009-10 IHL All-Rookie Team, named to the 2011 CHL All-Star Team, voted to the 2011-12 All-CHL Team and was honored as Komets Defenseman of the Year twice (2010-11and 2011-12).

Last year DeAngelis completed his third consecutive season in Fort Wayne appearing in all 66 regular season games scoring career highs of 18 goals, 28 assists and 46 points.  The Woodbridge, Ontario native also skated all 18 playoff games netting four goals and 14 points en route to his second league championship with the Komets.

Komets slate two preseason tuneups-- The Komets open training camp Saturday, September 29.  The Komets have scheduled a pair of exhibition home games against the Evansville IceMen at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Komets will face the IceMen Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30pm and again Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5pm.

Season home opener Oct. 12-- The Komets will make their ECHL debut on Friday, Oct. 12 when they host the Kalamazoo Wings at 8pm.  The Komets' 61st anniversary season will feature 36 home games and 36 road games.  Start times for Komet home games remain unchanged from last year; Monday thru Thursday and Saturday games start at 7:30pm, Friday games faceoff at 8pm and Sunday games start at 5pm.
