FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Komets broadcaster Bob Chase is the latest recipient in what many believe to be the greatest award in all of hockey, the Lester Patrick Trophy .
The award honors a recipient's contribution to ice hockey in the United States. Prior to this year only 108 individuals and three teams had been honored with the Lester Patrick Trophy. Those names include Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, and the 1980 U.S. Olympic team.
Chase, along with Washington Capitals executive Dick Patrick, will be honored during the annual U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame induction celebration in Dallas October 15.
This upcoming season will be Chase's 60th year radio rinkside for the Komets.
A Michigan native, Chase began his career in 1953 with the Komets while starting his career at Fort Wayne radio station WOWO AM 1190 .
The Komets are entering their first season in the ECHL . The K's open the season at home Friday, October 12 against Kalamazoo.
