WICHITA, KS. - After throwing away home ice advantage in the Turner Conference Finals, the Komets played the role of thief Saturday night, winning game one of the President Cup Finals in Wichita. A hot start in the first period led to a 5-3 win.
Jamie Milam opened the scoring 10 minutes into the contest off a beautiful feed from Bobby Chaumont. Less than two minutes later it was Chaumont's turn to light the lamp - giving the Komets and early 2-0 lead.
Wichita answered with a flurry in the next period. Chris Auger netted a third goal for the K's, but a pair of scores from Thomas Beauregard and another from Garett Bembridge had the contest tied at three heading into the final 20 minutes.
Once again it was Auger coming up big in crunch time - scoring eight minutes into the period, before Jamie Lovell added an emtpy net goal in the closing seconds.
Nick Boucher was brilliant in net - stopping 30 of the 33 shots he faced.
Game two is Sunday evening in Wichita, starting at 5:05 PM ET.
