Orlando, FL - Despite firing 35 shots on goal, the Solar Bears were shutout 3-0 by the Fort Wayne Komets at the Amway Center on Saturday night.
A scoreless first period was broken wide open by the Komets in the middle frame. LW Luca Caputi corralled a beautiful pass from C Ryan Lasch and tapped the puck Darcy Kuemper into the net to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead at 5:14. The Komets then took control of the game with two goals in 2:17, with RW Jean-Michael Rizk knocking a puck home and Caputi adding his second of the night at 11:47 to increase the score to 3-0. Fort Wayne held the 3-0 lead into the third period.
Although the Solar Bears had numerous scoring opportunities in the final frame, they were unable to find their way past Fort Wayne's defense and G Charlie Effinger. In the final period Orlando outshot Fort Wayne 10-7 and finished the contest tied 35-35 in overall shots on goal.
