FORT WAYNE, IN. - For the number of championships accumulated by the Komets veterans over the years, it's two newcomers that have the most experience when it comes to the CHL Presidents' Cup.
Defenseman Jamie Milam and forward Brett Smith were both members of the Shreveport Mudbugs last season - a team that won the 2011 CHL championship. When the franchise suspended operations this past summer, the Komets jumped at the chance to add a duo with the kind of talent Milam and Smith bring to the table. (It's technically Milam's second go-around with the Komets after he made his professional debut with the team back in 2006 - appearing in eight games.)
Now the pair is providing further leadership in the postseason to a K's roster that is still relatively young and inexperienced overall. The returns have been stellar as the Komets lead their best-of-seven series with the Wichita Thunder 2-0, with Smith providing three assists thus far.
The Komets have a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead on Thursday night when they host the Thunder at the Coliseum. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
