The Icehawks may lead the Komets in the standings, but it was the K's who looked like the superior team on Friday night, blowing Port Huron off the ice, 9-1.
Konstantin Shafranov got the scoring started for the Komets just eight minutes into the first period and was assisted by Matt Syroczynski. The K's next goal came from rookie Frankie DeAngelis, who was assisted by P.C. Drouin and Leo Thomas. The K's scored again just over a minute later, as Brad McMillan netted a goal and was assisted by Matt Woodward. A few minutes latter, DeAngelis got his second goal of the night and was assisted by Kaleigh Schrock.
The Komets did not let up in the second period. Drouin and Thomas netted two more goals for the K's before the Icehawks finally scored their first and only goal of the night. The Komets poured it on with three more goals, Shafranov scoring his second goal of the night and Syroczynski and Sean O'Connor scoring goals on powerplays.
Tim Haun got the win, saving 33 of 34 goals for the K's.
The Komets next play at Quad City on Saturday.
