EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WANE) - The Komets now stand alone in first place in the CHL's Turner Conference as Fort Wayne topped Evansville 4-3 on the road Wednesday night.
The Komets and Icemen came into the night tied for first.
The Komets opened the scoring at 14:10 in the first period when Artem Podshendyalov found the net thanks to assists by Brett Smith and Chris Auger.
In the second period John Ronan's goal at 1:44 would tie the game at one. At 7:14 Todd Robinson would give Evansville 2-1 lead.
However, the Komets would regain the momentum halfway through the second frame. Smith would even the game at two-all with a goal at 12:57. Less than three minutes later Jamie Milam would score to put the Komets up 3-2.
The Icemen would tie the game up again at 10:50 in the third frame when Nicklas Lindberg would beat Nick Boucher to knot the score at three-all. Less than two minutes later, though, Chris Auger would find the net to give the Komets a 4-3 lead en route to the win.
Nick Boucher stopped 28-of-31 shots for Fort Wayne.
The Komets return home on Friday night when they host Quad City at 8 p.m. at War Memorial Coliseum.
