FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Toledo scored two third period goals to pull away from the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 tonight. Toledo has a record of 10-7-0-1 and is 6-2-0-1 on the road this season. The win extends Toledo’s unbeaten in regulation streak on the road to seven games (6-0-0-1).

The Walleye would strike first when Byron Froese sent a pass in front of the Komets net to Terry Broadhurst who scored his third goal of the season at 1:53 of the opening period. Defenseman Joey Ryan got into a fight at 1:13 of the first period with Komets defenseman Daniel Maggio. Toledo held a 10-9 shot advantage on the Komets after the first period.

“I wanted to see us play with desperation tonight and start fast,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “This is an important stretch for us with all of these division games and we need to pick up points. We did a great job tonight pressuring their defense and creating chances throughout this game.”

The Komets would tie the game at a goal apiece when Matt Firman beat Jordan Pearce with a shorthanded goal at the 7:00 mark. Toledo would go ahead once again at 13:19 of the second period when Luke Glendening would collect his team-leading 10th goal of the season on the power play. Froese and Broadhurst collected the assists on the wrist shot goal by Glendening.

Fort Wayne would tie the game again at 2:12 of the third period when Firman wristed a shot past Pearce. Toledo would again go in front again at 11:20 of the third when Willie Coetzee slammed a rebound home for his 9th goal of the year (Ben Youds and Ryan). Andrej Nestrasil would add an empty net goal with just three seconds remaining.

The Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 23 saves and is 5-1-0-0 on the season, and has won five straight starts. Toledo is 5-5-0-0 against teams from the North Division this year. Forward Luke Glendening has scored three of his 10 goals this year against the Komets.
