FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Komets open the 2012-13 season on Friday night and they will boast a roster with many former CHL foes.

The Komets signed last year's CHL MVP in right wing Brandon Marino. Marino played in 65 games last year for Quad City racking up 41 goals and 49 assists for a total of 90 points.

Defenseman Tyler Butler will look to play a big role in Fort Wayne this season. Butler played for Arizona of the CHL last year scoring 10 goals to go with 29 assists and 111 penalty minutes.

Goaltender Charlie Effinger could also loom large this season. Last year playing for Missouri Effinger helped force the Komets to seven games in the CHL semifinals. Effinger, 26, appeared in 51 games with Missouri last season posting 32 wins; tying Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher for most goaltender wins.  Effinger registered a career-best 32-15-4 record to become the winningest goaltender in Missouri's history.  The Belleville, Illinois native finished the regular season campaign with a top-10 2.70 goals-against average and ranked second with a .923 save percentage.  Effinger finished the playoffs with a 7-4 record, 2.50 goals-against average and led CHL goaltenders with a .932 save percentage appearing in all 11 post-season games with the Mavericks.

The puck drops at 8 p.m. Friday night at War Memorial Coliseum when the Komets play Kalamazoo.
