Th e Komets completed the first week of 2012 gaining four points and sole possession of first place in the CHL at the All-Star break improving to 22-9-1 for 45 points after 32 games. The Komets split the four games played 2-2-0. Entering week 13 the Komets are on top with 22 wins and 45 points, tied with Wichita for most goals at 117, and have surrendered the fewest goals at 85.
The Komets dropped the first two games of the week, 4-2 at Bloomington Tuesday and 3-2 at Dayton Friday. It was only the second time this season Fort Wayne has been winless in back-to-back games. The Komets rebounded with a 4-2 win at Dayton Saturday and a 4-3 overtime victory at Fort Wayne Sunday over the visiting Gems. Sunday's win was the first Fort Wayne overtime win since last season, March 2, when the K's prevailed over the visiting Evansville IceMen 4-3.
Leaders at the All-Star break —The Komets also own the CHL’s best road record at 11-5-0 and have the most efficient power play at 25.5% (28/110). The Komets have two players among the top seven scorers in the league as Brett Smith ranks fifth with 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) and Bobby Chaumont ranks seventh with 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists). Netminder Nick Boucher leads with 19 wins and three shutouts. Jamie Milam leads CHL defensemen with 11 goals and 23 points.
Komet team leaders —Brett Smith continues to lead the Komets with 27 assists, 41 points and a plus-16. Smith and Bobby Chaumont lead with 14 goals each. Jamie Milan leads defensemen with 11 goals and 23 points.
Komet streaks —The Komets finished week 12 with two straight wins and center Colin Chaulk finished with a three-game point streak (1 goal, 2 assists). The Komets have had streaks this season of six games (11/19-12/3) and five games (12/23-12/31) and were undefeated in regulation eight straight games (7-0-1, 12/16-12/31).
Holding the lead -- the Komets continue unbeaten when taking the lead into the third period. The Komets are 19-0-0 when leading after the second period and 13-2-0 when leading after the first period. When scoring the first goal the Komets are 16-2-1 and when outshooting their opponents the Komets are 16-5-1.
