FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The AHL exodus in Fort Wayne began on Wednesday as reigning ECHL Player of the Week Corey Elkins was called up the the Norfolk Admirals.
Elkins is one of five or so players Komets coach Al Sims believes will be leaving Fort Wayne over the next week. With the NHL lockout over AHL teams are losing their top players to NHL camps. That leaves the AHL to fill out their rosters with the top talent in the ECHL.
One player who's absence isn't due to the lockout is Thomas Beauregard. Beauregard is tied with J.M. Rizk for the team lead with 14 goals this season, but has been placed on the 21-day injured reserve list. He is suffering from an upper body injury.
Forward Matt Kennedy was activated from injured reserve to fill Beauregard's spot.
The Komets play at Evansville tonight at 8:15 p.m.
