Fort Wayne, IN – Toledo ended a three game losing streak tonight with a 5-3 win in Fort Wayne. Toledo has an overall record of 20-16-0-4 and is 11-10-0-1 on the road this season.

The two teams traded chances in the first period of play, but neither team could dent the scoreboard. Both teams finished the first period with 8 shots on goal.

“We worked very hard this week during practice,” said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. “It was good to see all the hard work rewarded tonight.”

Toledo would strike quickly into the second period. Newcomer Nino Musitelli scored his first of the season at 1:45 of the second period when he wristed a shot past Ken Reiter. The Walleye would make it 2-0 at 3:25 of the period when Willie Coetzee skated in front of the net and beat Reiter with a backhanded shot.

It would be the Walleye to strike first in the third period as Tyler Brenner scored his first goal with Toledo at 11:43 of the third. The lead would balloon to 4-1 when Cody Lampl collected his third goal of the season at 13:45. The Komets would not go away easy though as they scored back to back goals to trim Toledo’s lead to 4-3. Willie Coetzee would cap the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:35.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Kent Simpson made 24 saves and is 8-8-0-3 on the season. Toledo is 5-2-0-0 against the Fort Wayne Komets this season.
