FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - After spending the last two weeks on the road it was home, sweet home for the Komets as they blasted Kalamazoo 7-3 Wednesday night at War Memorial Coliseum behind a hat trick from Josh Brittain.
Luca Caputi found the net twice in the first period. Caputi's goals along with a score from Matt Firman gave the Komets a 3-1 lead after one.
In the second frame J.M. Rizk and Brittain would each find the net as the Komets built a 5-1 lead heading into the third period.
Komets goalie Charlie Effinger would give up two early goals in the third frame as the lead was cut to 5-3. With 45 second left to play Brittain scored an empty net goal. Ten seconds later Brittain found the net again to stamp the final tally at 7-3.
Effinger stopped 27-of-30 shots in net.
The Komets play again on Friday night as they travel to Reading.
