FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Despite goals from J.M. Rizk and Corey Elkins the Komets fell at home Friday night to Cincinnati by a final of 4-2 in front of 7,329 fans at War Memorial Coliseum.
John McFarland of Cincinnati scored the lone goal in the first period to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.
At 10:06 in the second frame J.M. Rizk would bang home a rebound off a Dan Nycholat shot for Rizk's 13th goal of the season, knotting the game at 1-1. Just 1:40 later the Cyclones would re-take the lead as Anthony Luciani beat Komets goaltender Marco Cousineau to give Cincy a 2-1 advantage. Less than two minutes later Fort Wayne's Elkins would even the score with a short-handed goal, sending the game into the third period tied 2-2.
In the final frame Mike Embach would tally his fifth goal of the season at 9:45, helping Cincinnati to a 3-2 lead. David Pacan would score an empty-netter at 19:46 to seal the final at 4-2.
Cousineau stopped 22-of-25 shots for the Komets. Michael Houser was 30-of-32 for Cincinnati.
The Komets and Cyclones won't have to wait long to tangle again. The two teams play Saturday night in Cincinnati.
