LOVELAND, Colo. - The Komets scored four goals in the first period Friday night against Colorado en route to a 6-5 win over the Eagles.
Eric Giosa, Garrett Klotz, Brett Smith, and Brandon Marino each scored in the first 20 minutes to give Fort Wayne a 4-3 lead at the end of the first period.
Joey Sides knotted the game at 4-4 with a Colorado goal at 12:33 in the second period. Ryan Hegerty would score a shorthanded goal - his second of the season - at 15:41 to put the Komets up 5-4 heading into the third period.
In the third and final frame Matt Firman would net a powerplay goal at 5:16 to up Fort Wayne's lead to 6-4. Colorado's Kyle Ostrow would put some pressure on the Ks by scoring a powerplay goal at 18:51, but Fort Wayne held on to win 6-5.
Charlie Effinger stopped 30-of-35 shots for Fort Wayne to earn the win in goal.
The Komets gave up four powerplay goals on the night in nine chance. On the flip side, the Komets scored one powerplay goal in four chance.
The Komets wrap up their three-game swing to Colorado tomorrow night with another game against the Eagles.
