2/15 Highlight Zone - Girls Sectional Championships

Concordia, Elmhurst, Garrett among title winners

Instead of a sectional championship Saturday night as originally scheduled many local teams earned their crown on Monday thanks to Mother Nature.

In 4A at Jay County the South Side Archers topped upstart Huntington North to win the sectional 6 championship, 69-55.

In 3A at Leo, the host Lions fell to Concordia in the sectional 23 championship game, 45-33. Andrea Newbauer led the Cadets with 14 points while Anna Goeglein chipped in 13 and Erynn Meikeljohn 11. Jill Peck led the Lions with 14.

In 3A at Wayne the Elmhurst Trojans cruised to the sectional 22 title by beating Bellmont, 75-56. Lacia Gorman led the way with 23 points while Liza Clemons added 16. Madison Schultz scored 20 to pace the Squaws.

In 3A at West Noble Whitko was topepd in the sectional 21 championship by NorthWood, 76-35. NorthWood and Elmhurst will play each other in the first round of regionals next Saturday.

In 2A Garrett got 20 points from Heather House to beat Fremont 52-37 in the sectional 36 title game. Megan Getts added 16 for the Railroaders.

In 2A at Woodlan Bishop Luers made quick work of Adams Central, 65-24, winning the sectional 38 title. Brierra Young led the Knights with 17 points while Brooke Ridley added 13 and Miracle Woods scored 12 points to go with 13 rebounds.

In 2A sectional 35 action Westview won the title by beating LaVille by 10, 32-22.

In 2A sectional 39 play Wabash improved to 22-1 on the season by topping North Miami, 50-30.

In 2A sectional 40 play host Oak Hill beat Taylor 60-48.

Moving to 1A, Canterbury earned coach Scott Kreiger his 200th career win, beating Bethany Christian, 87-43 in the sectional 51 title game.

Also in 1A Southern Wells defended it's sectional 54 title by topping Cowan, 44-25.
