Tipton senior Mike Crawford earned repeat accolades in this week's IBCA/Subway Player of the Week recipients.
Crawford is joined by Fort Wayne Concordia junior D.J. McCall and Linton senior Austin Karazsia as honorees for the week of March 11-16 in the awards program overseen by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
The 6-5 Crawford was cited in District 2 for the third time this season and the second week in a row. The Saint Louis University recruit scored 40 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in a 67-64 loss to Bowman Academy in a Class 2A semistate. He made 15-of-29 shots from the field and 10-of-11 free throws in the game.
McCall was recognized in District 1 after leading Fort Wayne Concordia to Class 3A semistate crown. He scored 20 points in a 68-63 overtime win over Andrean.
The 6-8 Karazsia was cited in District 3 after posting a double-double in Linton's 76-75 victory over Speedway in the other Class 2A semistate. He tallied 28 points and 12 rebounds in helping the Miners to the overtime triumph.
This is the fifth season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the first season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a primary sponsor of the IBCA. Subway, in its third season as an IBCA sponsor, encourages athletes to "play hard and eat fresh."
Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAA's three districts. Boys winners will be selected from now through the week following March 23. The girls' program is complete for the 2012-13 season.
