ELKHART, Ind. (WANE) - For the second year in a row the Canterbury Cavaliers are heading to the 1A state championship game. The Cavs topped Southern Wells 44-43 Saturday afternoon in Elkhart to claim their second-straight semi-state title.
Canterbury was led by senior Megan Pedro. Pedro registered 19 points, including four three-pointers. Junior post player Tabitha Gerardot chipped in with a double-double, netting 14 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Junior guard Cassie Kreiger tallied eight points, while Paige Wells added three to round out Canterbury’s scoring. Despite not scoring, point guard Becky Pedro provided valuable minutes, registering seven assists and six rebounds. Madison Moyle also didn’t scored but notched eight key rebounds.
With the win, Canterbury (22-4) will now have a chance to defend last year’s state title when the Cavs face top-ranked Vincennes-Rivet in the 1A finals. Game time is set for 10:30 a.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium next Saturday.
Southern Wells ends the season with a 20-5 record, including an ACAC championship.
