ELKHART, Ind. (WANE) - For the second year in a row the Canterbury Cavaliers are
heading to the 1A state championship game. The Cavs topped Southern
Wells 44-43 Saturday afternoon in Elkhart to claim their
second-straight semi-state title.
Canterbury was led by senior Megan Pedro. Pedro registered 19
points, including four three-pointers. Junior post player Tabitha
Gerardot chipped in with a double-double, netting 14 points to go
along with 12 rebounds. Junior guard Cassie Kreiger tallied eight
points, while Paige Wells added three to round out
Canterbury’s scoring. Despite not scoring, point guard Becky
Pedro provided valuable minutes, registering seven assists and six
rebounds. Madison Moyle also didn’t scored but notched eight
key rebounds.
With the win, Canterbury (22-4) will now have a chance to
defend last year’s state title when the Cavs face top-ranked
Vincennes-Rivet in the 1A finals. Game time is set for 10:30 a.m.
at Lucas Oil Stadium next Saturday.
Southern Wells ends the season with a 20-5 record, including
an ACAC championship.
