FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Sectional championship games are now set as the state tournament field was cut in half Friday night during sectional semifinal action.
In the Highlight Zone "Game of the Week" at Charger Fieldhouse SAC rivals Northrop and North Side met with the Bruins winning 90-70. Brenton Scott tallied 30 points while his twin brother Bryson added 27. Dwight Richards led the Redskins with 24. In the nightcap NHC rivals DeKalb and Columbia City met with a controversial ending as the Barons topped the Eagles 46-45. The Bruins and the Barons will meet in the sectional title game at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
In 4A action at Huntington North it was New Haven over Wayne 81-62. VJ Beachem and Jabar Ray tallied 23 apiece to lead the Bulldogs while Justin Mitchell put up 21 for the Generals. In the second game of the evening Homestead's Nick Gamble would bury a three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left as the Spartans survived 48-45. Gamble finished with 16 points to lead the Spartans. The Bulldogs and Spartans will play tomorrow night at 7:30. New Haven won the regular season meeting between the two 82-70 back on February 2.
In 4A play at Elkhart Central it was Warsaw outlasting Concord 41-39 in triple overtime. Jordan Stookey nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer and finished with 13 points. Warsaw was led by Jared Bloom with 14 points. The Tigers advance to face Northridge tomorrow.
3A fans at Paul Bateman Gymnasium saw Concordia best Leo 73-59. The Cadets were led by Marq Rogers with 17 points while DJ McCall and Thomas Starks chipped in 16 points apiece. Leo was paced by Sam Waters with 16 and David Hardin with 14. In the second semi it was Woodlan over Angola 54-37. That means Concordia and Woodlan will play for the sectional title tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Down in Ossian host Norwell beat Mississinewa 69-51. Norwell was paced by David Vogel with 19 while Cam Denney added 15. The Knights will now face Heritage as the Patriots knocked out Whitko 62-40. Conner Sheehan led the Patriots with 16 points while Wil Knapke added 14. The sectional title game is set for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
In 3A play at Wawasee NorthWood topped Fairfield 71-41. In the nightcap Tippecanoe Valley bested Lakeland 63-53. That sets up NorthWood and Tippecanoe Valley for the sectional title at 7:30 tomorrow.
Down in Berne Bishop Luers downed Adams Central 69-47. In the late game Bluffton bested Eastside 46-39. The Knights and the Tigers will play tomorrow at 7:30.
In 2A play at Westview it was Westview over Central Noble 55-35. The late game saw LaVille top Prairie Heights 56-35. The sectional championship game is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow.
At Manchester the host Squires beat Oak Hill 55-53. Northfield bested Wabash 87-61, setting up Northfield and Manchester to play for the sectional championship at 7:30 Saturday night.
In 1A action at Hamilton Lakewood Park Christian topped Elkhart Christian 71-60 as the Panthers have now won 13 games ina row. Canterbury bested Bethany Christian 66-45. The sectional title game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Monday due to the Canterbury girls playing in the Class A state title game tomorrow in Terre Haute.
In 1A play at Monroe Central the host Golden Bears fell to Liberty Christian 54-49. In the nightcap Southern Wells defeated Wes-Del 66-57. That sets up the sectional title game between Southern Wells and Liberty Christian tomorrow night at 7:30.
