FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The girls basketball state tournament tipped off Tuesday night with first round sectional action all across northeast Indiana.
In 4A action at Homestead it was 4A no. 11 South Side beating Wayne 61-30. IPFW signee Ariana Simmons led the way for South with 16 points while Brittni Clopton added 12. Wayne was paced by Joey Stanford with 17 points. South advances to face New Haven at 6 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. In Tuesday's late game it was Homestead topping Jay County 80-36. The Spartans move to face play Huntington North at 7:45 on Friday.
In 4A sectional play at Snider it was Northrop over DeKalb in overtime 45-43. Aleah Swary led the Bruins with 16 points. Northrop moves to play North Side Friday at 6 p.m. Snider will host a full slate of games tomorrow night with Carroll and Columbia City playing at 6 p.m. followed by East Noble and Snider in the late game.
In 4A play at Concord 4A no. 8 Warsaw beat Elkhart Memorial 49-37 behind 18 points from Jennifer Walker-Crawford. In the late game Goshen beat Elkhart Central 63-36. Warsaw moves to play Concord at 6 p.m. on Friday.
In 3A at Bishop Dwenger it was Concordia beating Leo 58-41. Courtney Smith led the Cadets with 18 points - 17 in the second half - as Concordia came back from a five-point halftime deficit. The Cadets advance to face Bishop Dwenger at 6 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. In Tuesday's late game Garrett chopped down Woodlan 60-45. The Railroaders will now take on 3A no. 9 Angola Friday at 7:45 p.m.
In 3A sectional play at Mississinewa it was 3A no. 5 Norwell beating the host 87-47. The Knights will now face Eastbrook on Friday at 6 p.m. In Tuesday's nightcap Heritage bested Bellmont 61-49. The Patriots are set to play Whitko Friday at 7:45 p.m.
At NorthWood on Tuesday NorthWood topped Wawasee 53-29 while West Noble edged Tippecanoe Valley 60-58. NorthWood faces Fairfield at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by West Noble taking on Lakeland in the late game that night.
In 2A play at Bluffton 2A no. 14 Bishop Luers knocked out Adams Central 69-41. The Knights now face Eastside Friday at 6 p.m. Also on Tuesday it was South Adams over Bluffton 41-37. The Starfires will get Churubusco in Friday's late game.
2A action at Central Noble saw Bremen beat Prairie Heights 58-53 while Westview edged Central Noble 47-41 in overtime in the nightcap. Bremont now takes on LaVille at 6 p.m. Friday while Westview gets Fremont later that night.
In 2A play at Wabash Manchester manhandled Cass 49-23. Manchester plays North Miami at 6 p.m. on Friday. Tomorrow night at Wabash it will be Wabash facing Southwood at 6 p.m. followed by Oak Hill against Northfield. The winners of tomorrow's games will play in the late game on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
In 1A action at Canterbury it was Hamilton over Lakeland Christian 48-25 followed by Bethany Christian over Howe Academy 74-26. Hamilton and Bethany will square off Friday at 6 p.m. Tomorrow night Elkhart Christian will face Lakewood Park at 6 p.m. followed by Blackhawk and Canterbury at 7:45. The winners of those game will play in the semifinals Friday night at 7:45.
In 1A play at Southern Wells it was Daleville crushed Wes-Del 54-19 while Southern Wells beat Liberty Christian 53-6. Daleville advances to face Monroe Central at 6 p.m. Friday while Southern Wells is set to face Cowan that night in the late game.
