FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Bishop Luers hung on to beat North Side 22-20 in a critical battle in the SAC title race while Snider went outside of conference to beat Elkhart Central to stay undefeated.
With Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly watching star recruit Jaylon Smith at Luersfield Sean Katen booted a field goal in the fourth quarter to take a 22-14 lead. North's C.J. Jackson then hooked up with Anthony Linnear for a touchdown to make it 22-20. However, the Redskins would not be able score the two-point conversion while Luers recovered the onside kick to seal the win. Luers improves to 5-1 in SAC play while North Side falls to 3-2 in conference.
At Spuller Stadium Snider beat Elkhart Central in an offensive shootout 66-51. Je'Noire Smith rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Panthers who improved to 7-0 overall. Snider leads the SAC title race with a 5-0 mark in the league and can clinch the Victory Bell for the first time since 2005 with a win against Bishop Dwenger next week.
At Zollner Stadium Concordia got three touchdown passes from David Morrison to top Northrop 28-21. Concordia's Michael Hicks rushed 22 times for 128 yards and a score. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Cadets while it snaps a three-game winning streak for the Bruins.
At Jack Weicker Stadium South Side led Wayne 27-3 at the half en route to a 33-10 win. As a team the Archers rushed for 315 yards on 50 carries.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Indianapolis Chatard cruised past Bishop Dwenger, downing the Saints 42-7. The Trojans used a run heavy attack coupled with some turnover issues by Dwenger to carry a 28-0 lead into the half and they never looked back.
