FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Click on the VIDEO tabs for WANE's recap of the state championship games (part one) and a recap of the area's best players and coaches (part two).
The season has come to a close with Bishop Luers winning the lone state championship for Northeast Indiana. In this week's edition of Inside The Zone News-Sentinel sports editor Tom Davis and WANE's Glenn Marini recap the state finals and hand out their individual awards.
For Luers, who topped North Putnam 26-14 in the 2A title game, it is the program's ninth state championship. Luers trails only Chatard (10 titles) for most championships in state history.
Individually, The News-Sentinel is letting readers help decide who they will name as the area's Player of the Year. You can got to the paper's website and vote for Bishop Dwenger's Remound Wright, New Haven's Te'Vaughn Hurse, Churubusco's Kyle Mathewson, East Noble's A.J. Dove, and Luers' Kenny Mullen. Next Friday The News-Sentinel will release the voting and who wins Player of the Year.
While the paper has yet to name a player of the year WANE's Glenn Marini would selected Wright, citing his offensive, defensive, and special teams abilities.
For coach of the year Davis likes Columbia City's Randy Hudgins over Leo's Jared Sauder. Columbia City went 10-2 and won the NHC title for the first time in 20 years.
