Sectional championships will be decided on Friday night and nine local teams have a shot at bringing home a title.
In 5A, Snider (9-2) will square off in the Sectional 3 title game with Warsaw (7-4). The Panthers are coming off two big wins over Kokomo and North Side, while the Tigers earned a surprise win last Friday night by beating Homestead in the driving rain, 10-7. The News-Sentinel sports editor Tom Davis likes Snider in this one.
In 4A, two local sectional titles will be on the line. In Sectional 11, undefeated Bishop Dwenger (11-0) will host an improving Columbia City (4-7) team. The Saints beat Northridge last week, while the Eagles topped a solid East Noble team at home. Davis likes the Saints big on Friday night.
In Sectional 12 action, Wayne (7-4) travels to Delta (11-0). The Generals are coming off a win over New Haven, while Delta edged Muncie Southside last week, 7-6. Davis likes Delta in a tight game this Friday.
In 3A, the reigning state champ Bellmont Braves (8-3) host Eastbrook (11-0) in the Sectional 19 title game. Bellmont is coming off a dominating win over Heritage while Eastbrook edged Harding at home, 21-14. Davis likes the Eastbrook Panthers in a hard-fought game at Bob Worthman Stadium.
In 2A, Bishop Luers (6-5) hosts the title game for sectional 27 when the Knights take on Winchester (9-2). Luers led Eastern 28-0 at half last week and went on to win easily. Winchester beat a strong Madison-Grant team last week. Davis likes the Knights in this one.
In 1A, Southern Wells (9-2) travels to Southwood (6-5) for the Sectional 35 championship. Davis likes the running game and execution of the Raiders to win handily over Southwood.
