The Knights' run at a state championship is still alive despite a close shave at Lewis Cass Friday night in regionals, as Bishop Luers needed two overtimes to beat the Kings, 54-53.
The Kings scored on their first possession, as quarterback Damon Foreman woud find the endzone on a one-yard keeper to give Cass a 7-0 lead.
Luers would respond thanks to junior Kenny Mullen. Mullen would return the ensuing kick to Cass' 22 yard line. On the next play he would take a handoff 22 yards up the middle to tie the game at seven.
Cass responded with another long drive, capping it on a one-yard score from Forman to give the Kings a 14-7 lead.
In the second quarter Cass would up its lead to 20-7 as running back Josh Knutson scored a short touchdown.
Luers would add a 24-yard field goal from Alex Stronzcek before half to cut the lead to 20-10 at intermission.
Luers advances to face Rensselaer Central in semi-state. Rensselaer beat Fairfield on Friday night to advance. The Knights will play host this coming Friday night.
