GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) - A 1986 graduate of Garrett high school Chris DePew always wanted to be the head coach at his alma mater. This season the former Railroader has gotten that chance.
Garrett is 7-1 overall and 5-0 in ACAC play this season. They clinched at least a share of their first conference title since 2007 last Friday by beating Leo. This Friday they could win the championship outright with a win at Heritage in the Highlight Zone "Game of the Week."
Almost everything in DePew's life is tied to Garrett. He met his wife, Christina, in school when they were lab partners in science class. His father-in-law won the program's only state title in 1974. He grew up riding his bike on the streets of Garrett dreaming of becoming the head coach of the Railroaders some day. It is a dream that became a reality with DePew as his team rides a six-game winning streak heading into the final week of the regular season.
