FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Bishop Luers managed something almost no team has been able to duplicate in 2012 - shutdown the Churubusco offense. In downing the Eagles 21-0, the Knights captured their fourth straight sectional title on Friday night.
The Knights got a huge performance from senior Jaylon Smith who was his usual disruptive self defensively, but erupted for over 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well. Senior wideout Mike Rogers added the third score late in the game on a reverse play.
So dominant was the Luers defensive unit, Churubusco manged to drive inside the Knights 30 yard line on just three occasions - two of which ended with turnovers.
Bishop Luers will travel to Tipton next Friday for regional play.
