FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Snider's guts led to glory Friday night at Wayne Stadium as the Panthers rallied for an amazing comeback capped by a game-winning two-point conversion by Je'Noire Smith in a 36-35 overtime win against Fishers to capture the program's 12th regional championship.
Snider was down 28-14 after a Connor Christiansen touchdown pass to Maurice Campbell with 4:24 left to play.
The Panthers responded with a score at 1:20 when Brandon Phelps would score on a short quarterback keeper to cut the lead to 28-21. Snider would force a punt that would be blocked by Tyrell Swain, setting the Panthers up on the 28 yard line. Phelps would hit Quinton Daniels with four yard strike with 32 seconds left to tie the game at 28 and send it into overtime.
Fishers had possession first and scored on a Campbell touchdown to go up 35-28. On Snider's possession Je'Noire Smith score on a five-yard run to make the score 35-34. After a timeouts by both Snider and Fishers the Panthers elected to go for two and it paid off. Smith would find paydirt to clinch the game for Snider at 36-35.
Snider advances to host Merrillville at semi-state next week. Merrillville beat Carroll 51-20.
