TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama has hired Miami Hurricanes assistant Mario Cristobal as assistant head coach and offensive line coach. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced the hiring on Wednesday, just over a month after Cristobal returned to his alma mater.
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Tarvin Gaines had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Brian Williams hit the final basket with 9 seconds left to lead Jacksonville State to a 67-65 victory over Southeast Missouri State in an Ohio Valley Conference game Wednesday. Ronnie Boggs had 14 points, Darion Rackley had 11 points and Williams 10 for the Gamecocks, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Elston Turner scored 21 points and Alex Caruso added another 14 points in Texas A&M's come-from-behind victory over Auburn, 65-56 Wednesday night. Auburn opened the game with a 12-0 run through the first six minutes of play, but Texas A&M fought back to cut the Tigers' lead to 31-29 by halftime.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kyrie Irving scored 20 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 105-100 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night. Irving was coming off an impressive showing at All-Star weekend in Houston and scored 11 consecutive points for the Cavaliers as they broke away from an 83-all tie in the final 4:23.
