INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Colts mascot, Blue, issued a challenge to Colts Cheerleaders – if they could raise $10,000 for leukemia by Nov. 25, one cheerleader would shave her head in honor of Head Coach Chuck Pagano. They reached their goal.
Megan M. accepted the challenge and Sunday she allowed Blue to shave her head during the third quarter of the Colts game against the Buffalo Bills. Another cheerleader, a leukemia survivor herself, also let Blue shave her head.
Blue and Megan raised $22,670 over the past two weeks.
Megan stopped by and spoke with our sister station, WISH TV's Daniel Miller about Sunday.
"I've just had personal experiences with people who have had cancer," she said. "I've had mentors and family members and volunteer at Riley and met little girls who have lost their hair and beat cancer multiple times. Just seeing struggles they went through and how they could overcome that and still have confidence and fight this fight without their hair - they are really my inspiration for doing this."
Also over the last two weeks, Great Clips locations have given fans the opportunity to shave their heads. For each fan who stepped up, Great Clips donated $10 to Blue’s ChuckStrong Challenge. 800 fans shaved their heads.
To date, more that $250,000 has been raised for leukemia research in Chuck Pagano’s honor.
